Peschanoe Lake

Peschanoe Lake is a small taiga lake. It is known as a natural monument since 1962.

It is situated in a pine forest next to the village Timiriazevskoe which is the part of  city Tomsk. The topography of the coast was formed during the ice age.

The age of the lake dates back several thousand years, which is proved by peat deposites in the surrounding swamps.

There are a lot of sandy beaches on the North and the East shores.

The lake is surrounded by pine forests.

In Russia such lakes with pine forests on the shore can be found in Karelia, for example, Ladoga and Onega lakes, Syamozero.

There are many sandy lakes can be found in Altay.

Besides Russia, Canada and the Baltic States are also famous for their unique natural landscapes. Sandy lakes are so unpretentious, that it can be found everywhere. Such lakes are found near Chelyabinsk, in Altay, in Kurgan, in Sverdlovsk region and other areas.

Probably the lake was named sandy, because of the sandy bottom and shore. It happened in the distant past. Several millennia ago the territory of Siberia was covered by the glacier.

At that time the Ob and Yenisei rivers already frowned to the Arctic Ocean but didn’t reach it because of  the glacier on their way. And then the water accumulated at the age of the glacier, forming the large lake. The lake was so large, that scientists call it now as the sea.

All kinds of precipitations and sand were deposited at the bottom of this sea.

Then the glacier melted, the sea turned into a lake, but the sand remains.

Gradually the land was covered with forests. However, many kinds of plants cant grow in sand. Only the pine tree grows well in such natural conditions. So, in Siberia appeared a beautiful pine forest.
